Although temperatures can differ significantly between the coast and the interior highlands, most of East Africa experiences two rainy seasons that occur around the same time each year: one primarily in November and a longer season from March to early June. Consequently, many travelers prefer to take their East African vacations between mid-June and mid-October. It’s important to note that the rainy seasons typically do not bring heavy rainfall or flooding, and all parks remain accessible.

If your question is whether you need to be vaccinated against coronavirus (COVID-19) to enter East Africa, the answer is “No.” However, you will need to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result taken within three days before arriving in any East African country. It is also advisable to get vaccinated against:
- Hepatitis A and B
- Yellow fever
- Meningitis
- Typhoid
Additionally, be aware that malaria poses a significant risk. Thus, it is recommended that all visitors take antimalarial medication before traveling to East Africa, while they are there, and for a few weeks after departing.
You will need to obtain a standard visitor/tourist visa before arriving in any of the countries of East Africa. Obtaining a visa on arrival (VOA) in any of the countries here is no longer possible. Instead, you must apply for your visa using the online application system for whichever country or country you plan to visit.

While hiring a guide is not mandatory for all climbs, it is highly recommended for challenging or technical routes, especially if you are unfamiliar with the area or the climbing skills required.
Preparation involves physical training, including cardiovascular workouts, strength training, and hiking. Familiarize yourself with basic mountaineering skills and ensure you have the right gear. Research the specific mountain you plan to climb to understand its challenges.
